NOTICE OF HEARING
Afghanistan Public Interest Hearings pursuant to
Section 250.38(1) of the National Defence Act
MPCC 2007-006, MPCC 2008-024 & MPCC 2008-042
IN THE MATTER of conduct complaints under section 250.18 of the National Defence Act by Amnesty International Canada and the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association and pursuant to subsections 250.42 and 250.43(1) of the National Defence Act, a panel of the Military Police Complaints Commission (the “Commission”) will conduct Public Interest Hearings in accordance with the decisions of the Chair of the Commission dated March 12, 2008, September 30, 2008 and March 26, 2009. Copies of the complaints were previously provided to you and are available on the Commission’s website at www.mpcc-cppm.gc.ca.
The hearings will commence on Monday the 25th day of May 2009 at 10:00AM at the Standard Life Centre, 333 Laurier Avenue West, 18th Floor, Hearing Room #2, in Ottawa, Ontario and will continue until June 5, 2009 and as necessary thereafter.
If you fail to attend in person or by representative, the Commission may proceed in your absence and you are thereafter not entitled to any further notice of the proceedings.
At the end of the hearings, the Commission will make a report to the Chief of the Defence Staff and may make findings and recommendations in respect of the complaints.
Where an individual is a subject of a complaint, the Commission may make findings and recommendations in respect of the conduct of the individual. It may also be the case that, after reviewing all of the available evidence and conducting hearings, certain or all of the individuals named may be deemed not to have engaged in conduct worthy of comment, negative or otherwise, in any report issued by the Commission.
