FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Commission will conduct a case conference preliminary to the resumption of the Afghanistan Public Interest Hearings in accordance with the Afghanistan Public Interest Hearing Rules

OTTAWA, December 8th, 2009

The purpose of the case conference is generally to identify and address issues relating to the resumption of hearings following the Order of the Federal Court of Appeal dated December 4, 2009. The Commission will receive updates on the current status of documentary production, necessary to resume hearings; as required, set a schedule for completing the production of documents to the Commission; clarify the composition of the hearing panel after December 11, 2009, pending the appointment of a new Chairperson; and deal with any other procedural matters related to the resumption of the hearings about which the parties give notice prior to December 10, 2009, and which the Commission permits.

This session is open to the media. Videographers and photographers will be permitted to move around the Hearing Room until the Commission Chairperson calls the session to order. Reserved seating for members of the media will be limited to the first three rows on the right hand side of the room. Space constraint may determine the number of seats available for members of the media therefore, confirmation of attendance prior to 2 p.m. on Wednesday December 9th would be strongly recommended.

Transcripts of the hearing will be available through the Commission.
