Funding Recommendation

Dear Mr. Clement:

On October 26, 2011, I issued a recommendation that the Government of Canada provide funding for legal representation for Mr. Shaun Fynes and Mrs. Sheila Fynes, complainants in a Public Interest Hearing before the Commission. On the same date, I forwarded to you my decision and my reasons for making the recommendation.

For your information, please find enclosed correspondence received by the Commission from counsel for the complainants, advising that no determination has yet been made by the Government of Canada. Counsel for the complainants has advised that if a response is not received, a motion will be made in early January to request an adjournment of the Public Interest Hearing.

Please note that, in keeping with the Commission’s practices in Public Interest Hearings, the present correspondence and the correspondence received from the complainants’ counsel will be provided to the Parties and made available to the public. Any comments received from the Parties about the correspondence from counsel for the complainants will also be forwarded to you and made available to the public.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Commission if you wish to obtain additional information about these proceedings.
