Media Guidelines
Guidelines – Media at Hearing
Commission hearings are open to the public and the media. The purpose of these guidelines is to assist in the proper coordination of the media before, during and after hearings. Nothing in these guidelines limits the authority of the Commission to exclude the media, including television, when the public interest so requires.
- Media accreditation must be available on request.
- Media must sign in at the entrance to the hearing room.
- An area in the hearing room will be designated for journalists and members of the media.
- Media are not permitted in the front of the hearing room, beyond the barriers.
- Media are not permitted to capture images of any documents being used by the Commission Chair, any Commission member, staff, or any of the lawyers present at the hearing.
- Commission documents intended for public consumption will be available on a timely basis, either in hard copy or on the Commission’s website.
- An audio feedbox will be available in the hearing room.
- Transcripts of the hearings will be made available by the Commission upon request.
- Television cameras will be permitted in the hearing room and must operate from a designated, fixed position located on the right side of the hearing room. Only fixed cameras and the lighting system in the hearing room will be allowed.
- Media representatives are to consult with Commission Media Relations staff if they wish to provide live coverage of any part of the hearing. If live coverage is provided, cameras will operate from a fixed position. Pooling arrangements may be required.
- Members of the media are to use discretion as they enter and exit the hearing room to avoid disrupting the proceedings.
- No media scrums, interviews, or reporting will be allowed in the hearing room. Interviews may be conducted outside the hearing room, in the lobby, away from the hearing room entrance.
- The Chairperson will not be available for media interviews at any time.
- Media will be subject to the direction of the Chairperson of the Commission.
- The Commission reserves the right to amend these guidelines, if necessary, during the course of the hearing.
