Notice of Hearing (MPCC-2024-037)

IN THE MATTER of a conduct complaint under section 250.18 of the National Defence Act by Mrs. Sarah Orton and pursuant to subsection 250.43 (1) of the National Defence Act, the Military Police Complaints Commission will conduct a public interest hearing beginning April 20, 2026 and ending May 15, 2026 or earlier as the evidence requires.

The hearing will be conducted virtually and will be livestreamed to the public in French and English. Links to the daily hearing sessions will be posted on our social media channels and on our website.

The hearing will hear evidence related to whether military police provided an adequate response to a request for a welfare check on MCpl Shaun Orton. Further background may be found in the decision to convene this hearing.

At the end of the hearing, the Commission will issue a report to the Minister, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Judge Advocate General and the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal and may make findings and recommendations in respect of the complaint.
